Self-Study Online

The Royal College Simulation Educator Training (SET) course was developed to improve medical training capacity in Canada through faculty development and will serve as the foundation for the growth of simulation-based health educator competency across Canada. It includes a spectrum of content designed to advance the skills of both novice and intermediate simulation educators. This online component of the course consists of 5 self-study modules. Authored and peer-reviewed by healthcare experts from various specialties and backgrounds, they present important self-assessment questions, answers, and evidence-based rationale helping you to close best practice knowledge and skill gaps.

The course content is undergoing revision. We plan to offer a revised hybrid course (Online + In person) in early 2023.

Learning Outcomes

The course focuses on the competencies required to

  • Develop a simulation curriculum and integrate it with other learning activities
  • Design, develop, facilitate and evaluate simulation cases and simulation sessions
  • Provide effective feedback and debriefing
  • Describe the principles informing performance based assessment
  • Describe the foundations of program evaluation for simulation programs

Any health care professional currently or planning to be engaged in simulation-based education.

CME Accreditation

This activity is an Accredited Simulation Activity (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the University of Ottawa & rsquo's Office of Continuing Professional Development. You may claim a maximum of 6 hours (credits are automatically calculated).

The course takes about 6 hours to complete. You do not need to complete all of it in one session. You can log out of the system and return later. Your progress will be saved automatically.
